The Amherst League’s annual Election Guide informed voters about all candidates for town office. Preparation started in January, combining efforts by the Town Clerk’s office, the Town Meeting Coordinating Committee (TMCC), and LWVA Voters Service Committee. The League mailed questionnaires to all registered candidates requesting campaign statements and background information. Most candidates replied online on the LWVA website using an information form updated by webmaster Kathy Campbell. We organized and transmitted the information to staff at the Daily Hampshire Gazette who did the print design and layout for a two page display ad. The League’s Election Guide went out to voters in the Amherst Bulletin on March 27, the Friday before Town elections.
Voters Service also revised and reprinted “They Represent You” (TRY), a directory of elected local officials and Town Meeting members. Work on TRY began immediately after the 2015 town election. Contact information was gathered from state and federal legislators, Town officials and boards, Town Meeting members, the Town Clerk’s office, and TMCC. The Daily Hampshire Gazette handled the design and printing. The preliminary version of TRY was distributed at Town Meeting on April 29. The revised version was distributed at the League’s annual meeting on May 21 and is now available online at the LWVA website, at Town Hall, local libraries, schools, businesses, and community centers as a free public service.
Many thanks to League members Maija Lillya, Marcie Sclove, Alice Swift, and Webmaster Kathy Campbell for working on these publications!
