Dr. Helfand will discuss the latest efforts to prevent nuclear war, the importance of this issue, and what you can do to help.

Dr. Ira Helfand has led two organizations that were recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize. He is a member of the International Steering Group of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which won the prize in 2017). And he is co-president of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), which won the prize in 1985. He is co-founder and past president of Physicians for Social Responsibility, the US affiliate of IPPNW. Dr. Helfand is a practicing physician, formerly in emergency medicine in Northampton and now working at an urgent care center (in Springfield.
