The state primary election will be held THURSDAY, September 8. The League of Women Voters of Amherst will hold a candidates forum for positions for which there is more than one candidate on Thursday, August 25, at the Town Hall from 7 to 9 p.m.
While there may be few contested seats in Amherst and surrounding communities come November, there are several important races being contested at the primary level. Already there are many opportunities for citizens to become acquainted with the six candidates for the seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives that is being vacated by long-time Representative Ellen Story. Amherst Media will hold a debate on Tuesday, June 21, at 7 p.m. Amherst Media is also running the debate that was held at the Amherst Survival Center on Wednesday, June 15. The last day to register to vote in the September 8 primary is August 19. The last day to register to vote in the November 8 general election is October 19.
Also, for the first time this year, early in-person voting for the November 8 general election will be available in Amherst from October 24 through November 4 during business hours at the Town Clerk's office.
