LWVA Speaks to Proposed Pipeline

Several League members attended the hearings in Greenfield June 11 and July 29, sponsored by the MA Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) respectively, connected with the proposed Tennessee Gas Company/Northeast Energy Direct pipeline. The League presented a statement at the DPU hearing on June 11, which nominally was addressing only Berkshire Gas Company's plan to buy some of the gas from this line. A second statement has been submitted to FERC. That statement, cosponsored by the Northampton Area LWV, is available here. This statement has also been sent to Attorney General Maura Healey, who has commissioned a study of Massachusetts future energy needs, and to the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board.

FERC is accepting comment through August 31, 2015. Click here for a nice guide on submitting comments to FERC electronically.
