Amherst and many of the surrounding communities have open seats and multiple candidates for their representatives in the state legislature. As no Republicans have filed for these positions, the winners of the September 4 primaries are likely to be the only candidates on the ballot in November. This includes the Third Hampshire House District, where unenrolled incumbent Solomon Goldstein-Rose has announced that he will not challenge the winner of the Democratic nomination in the general election.
In the case of the Franklin-Hampshire-Worcester Senate seat formerly occupied by Stan Rosenberg, the situation is further complicated by the fact that three of the four candidates in September are write-in candidates whose names will not be printed on the ballot.
The forthcoming LWV Massachusetts Election Guide will cover all races down to the regional level, including write-in candidates, and third-party or independent candidates if there are any. See this page for the Amherst preliminary election for the new Amherst Town Council.
There have already been a number of forums for the regional seats, some designed to elicit the candidates' positions on a limited range of issues, others more general. But there are a few more coming up.
