Under the new Amherst Town Charter, the entire membership of the Amherst School Committee and the Library Board of Trustees, as well as the Oliver Smith Will Elector, is to be elected for two year terms (2020-2021) in the November 5, 2019 elections. The three elected members of the Housing Authority will also be on the November 5 ballot. The only contested election is for the Amherst School Committee, where six candidates are competing for five seats.
The Amherst Town Council is not up for election this year, having been elected to initial three-year terms in November 2018.
The League of Women Voters will sponsor a candidate forum on October 28 at the Bangs Center, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The forum will feature panel discussions by candidates for the School Committee and for the Library Trustees. Candidates for other offices have been invited to introduce themselves briefly to the audience.
