League starts planning for charter review

After reviewing the history of its positions, members decided that the best course of action would be to present the concepts, principles and practices that the League believes make for effective local government, and to use these principles to compare the charter proposal with the existing structure defined by the 2001 Amherst Town Government Act.

Two Public Lectures on Our Energy Future

The League of Women Voters of Amherst sponsored two public lectures on the future of energy production and distribution in Massachusetts in November and December of 2016. Anne George of ISO New England spoke on November 29, and Professor James Manwell of the UMass Wind Energy Center on December 6.

Forum on Ballot Question 2 Planned at UMass

The League of Women Voters is co-sponsoring a panel discussion on the ballot question about raising the cap on Charter Schools. The forum is planned for the evening of October 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room N151 of the new Integrative Learning Center on the campus of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

School Vote Information Forum September 28

The school project will require a Proposition 2 1/2 debt exclusion question on the November 8, 2016 State Election ballot for Amherst Voters. A forum on Wednesday, September 28, 7-9 p.m. in the Amherst Regional Middle School Auditorium, will give the community an opportunity to hear different views.

Learn About Candidates for Upcoming Elections

The state primary election will be held THURSDAY, September 8. The League of Women Voters of Amherst will hold a candidates forum for positions for which there is more than one candidate on Thursday, August 25, at the Town Hall from 7 to 9 p.m.
