Two Public Lectures on Our Energy Future

The League of Women Voters of Amherst sponsored two public lectures on the future of energy production and distribution in Massachusetts in November and December of 2016. Anne George of ISO New England spoke on November 29, and Professor James Manwell of the UMass Wind Energy Center on December 6.

ISO-NE is the Independent System Operator, charged by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) with maintaining and operating the electric grid system in the six state New England region. Professor Manwell's talk will provide an overview of this new technology, from its originally conceptualization at UMass Amherst in the 1970s through its first realization in Europe in the last few decades to its re-entry into New England.
