The Biomass Resolution proposed by LWVA was passed, in slightly revised form, by the Amherst Town Council on February 8, 2021.
LWVA also sent along a couple of supporting documents:
- Review of the Manomet Biomass Sustainability and Carbon Policy Study (2010), which concluded that for utility-scale generation, carbon emissions are higher from biomass than from fossil fuels, and
- an article from WBUR outlining regulatory changes proposed by the Baker administration.
The latter are also discussed in this article from Commonwealth Magazine. Groups like Climate Action Now and No Toxic Biomass continue to fight back against the proposed changes.
