The 2014 LWV National Convention adopted a three-part study on “Key Structures of Democracy”. One part of this study is designed to provide the League with principles on which to base a decision to approve or oppose amending the Constitution.
Materials for this component have now been made available, including
- consensus questions,
- a study guide,
- a 2001 article by Kathleen Sullivan entitled Constitutional Amendmentitis that appeared in The American Prospect, and a rebuttal in the form of a 2004 working paper by Adrian Vermeule on Constitutional Amendments and the Constitutional Common Law.
LWVA is forming a study committee with the goal of holding a consensus meeting in November in order to meet the December 1 deadline for reporting results to LWVUS.
