Climate Change and the Growing Risk of Nuclear War: an agenda for action has been organized by Physicians for Social Responsibility, whose co-founder and past president, Ira Helfand, is a Leeds resident. The event is scheduled for September 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m at the the Hadley Farms Meeting House on 41 Russell St.

The planned program includes three panels. The first, from 9:15-11:15 on Climate Change and Conflict, will be moderated by Rev. Dr. Margaret Bullitt-Jonas. Its four confirmed speakers will be Bill McKibben of; Nitin Damie, American College of Physicians; Michael Klare of PAWS (Peace and World Security Studies Program, the Five Colleges) and Jennifer Leaning, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. From 11:30 to 12:30, the panel on Conflict and Nuclear War will be moderated by Sut Jhally. Panelists will include Ira Helfand of Physicians for Social Responsibility. After a lunch break, the final panel will meet from 12:30- 1:30. An Agenda for Action will have as panelists Marty Nathan of climate Action Now and John Loretz of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. Workshops will be held between 2:45 and the 4 p.m. adjournment.
