The Local Action for Social Justice Committee seeks to provide LWVA members opportunities to further inform themselves about local social issues, as well as providing opportunities to act on these concerns. Interests include immigration and the problems immigrants face, racism and diversity, the social safety net and affordable housing.

Housing: The Big Picture

Housing costs have risen far more quickly than incomes in most of the country. Few units were constructed between 1980 and 2010, and even fewer of those were smaller, more affordable, units. A forum on homelessness that the League co-sponsored in 2016 identified a great need for housing to reduce the number of homeless people. The proposal by the Valley Community Development Corporation is to help meet that need.
