Annual Meeting

The League of Women Voters of Amherst celebrated its 80th anniversary on March 21, 2019, with an Open House at the Amherst Woman's Club, as well as updated editions of the LWVA Program Book and history.

Report for 2016-2017

The LWVA Health Care Committee continued to work toward a Massachusetts single payer health care plan. Members of the Health Care Committee gave testimony about the rising cost of health care in Massachusetts at hearings in Boston as well as at Senator Rosenberg’s “Senate Listening Tour” (Spring, 20104, Holyoke Community College).

The Amherst League’s annual Election Guide informed voters about all candidates for town office. Preparation started in January, combining efforts by the Town Clerk’s office, the Town Meeting Coordinating Committee (TMCC), and LWVA Voters Service Committee. The League mailed questionnaires to all registered candidates requesting campaign statements and background information. Most candidates replied online on the LWVA website using an information form updated by webmaster Kathy Campbell.

Voter Registration: In June, 2014, Judy and Marcie held a “kick off” Voters Registration Meeting at Marcie’s house. Twelve people came and we enjoyed an energy filled training on how to run a Voters Registration Table. Then we brainstormed about places events where we can do tabling, and started to sign up for specific times and places. A “sign up genius” was used for coordinating some of the scheduling.
