Candidates Forum for Hampshire County Sheriff

August 25, 2022
7 p.m.
Northampton Center for the Arts, 33 Hawley Street, and on line

You are invited to a Candidate Forum that highlights the Primary Election race for Sheriff of Hampshire County on Thursday, August 25 from 7 to 8:30 pm, co-sponsored by the Amherst and Northampton Leagues of Women Voters and the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

The candidates will present their views and answer questions at the new Northampton Center for the Arts, 33 Hawley Street in Northampton. Join us there, or participate virtually. The forum will be broadcast on the public access channel of Northampton Open Media. You will also be able to stream it live at the NOM web site. A recording of the forum will be accessible later at the NOM web site.

Written questions will be accepted from those attending in person on August 25, but you can submit questions in advance at until August 22. Please address your questions to all three candidates. We will try to pose as many questions as possible in the time available in order to cover the broad range of issues of interest to Hampshire County voters.

As one of the few contested county offices in this year’s Primaries, the race for Sheriff brings to light the importance of this arm of local law enforcement. Sheriffs oversee county jails and houses of correction, providing needed health and educational services to inmates. Their leadership has an impact on drug addiction and mental health treatment, vocational training and prisoner reentry back into their communities. Can you name the current Hampshire County Sheriff? In a recent poll only 17% of voters can. Let's increase the 17%! Find out more at the ACLU Massachusetts web site.

More information about the candidates and about the fall elections is available through the League's Vote411 web site.
