LWVA Civic Action Grants

See a connection between your public policy work and ours? The League of Women Voters of Amherst invites you to apply for a Civic Action Grant.

Purpose: The League of Women Voters of Amherst (LWVA) is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League studies issues, and if there is member consensus, it adopts positions. These positions are traditionally grouped into four program areas: Representative Government, Natural Resources, Social Policy and (at the national level) International Relations. They form the basis for the League's advocacy in matters of public policy.

Before you apply, please familiarize yourself with the LWVA Program book. Grants will be considered only if they are directly related to our program. No grants will be given to support a political party or candidates for office.

Grant applications that address the action priorities of the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts will also be considered.

Applicants: Applications will be accepted from members of the League of Women Voters of Amherst, non-profit organizations, students, and other individuals.

Funding the program: $5,000 has been allocated for the year 2020. Individual grants will not exceed $1,000. Future funding is subject to annual budgeting for Community Services.

Application deadline: The LWVA reviews grant applications on a rolling basis. The grant review committee reserves the right to request more information to clarify your grant application. You will be notified within 60 days of your application, and you must accept or decline the grant within one week of notification.

Follow up: If you receive this funding, you must be willing to provide a short report for LWVA to use in their publications and promotions, both before your launch and after the project is completed. Photos are appreciated and must be accompanied by a release for the LWVA to use the image in print or online publications. This report must be done within a month of your project completion. Please give credit to the League of Women Voters of Amherst on all published material. Suggested statement: This event [or program] was funded [in part] by the League of Women Voters of Amherst.
