LWVA Schedules Candidate Forums

The League of Women Voters of Amherst will conduct Candidate Forums, cosponsored by Amherst Media, for all contested races in the upcoming Amherst municipal election.

All forums will be conducted as webinars, hosted by LWVA. Amherst Media will stream three of these forums for town-wide offices, and will put recordings of all of them on their YouTube channel. To join one of these webinars, go to our home page and click on the Join link for that event. The webinar links will also be published by Amherst Media and our web site the LWVA Facebook page. Registration will not be required.

Questions for the candidates may be submitted using the Q&A option during the Zoom webinars, or in advance by e-mailing election2021@lwvamherst.org.

Candidates for uncontested races will be included in the LWVA Election Guide that will be distributed the week before Election Day. All candidates may submit statements for the Town Bulletin Board and are invited to contact Amherst Media to film a video statement of up to five minutes.

While the race for Jones Library Trustee is currently uncontested (six candidates are running for the six seats) and therefore is not included in our list of forums, Amherst Media does plan to hold a debate to address the referendum question that will appear on the November ballot.

As of 9/24/21, the contested races with the planned forum dates/times are:

*At-large Town Councilors Thursday, October 7, 7 p.m.
District 3 Town Councilors Sunday, October 10, 2 p.m.
District 4 Town Councilors Sunday, October 10, 2 p.m.
*School Committee Thursday, October 14, 7 p.m.
District 2 Town Councilors Sunday, October 17, 2 p.m.
*Housing Authority plus Oliver Smith Will Elector Thursday, October 21, 7 p.m.

(* indicates webinars that will be live-streamed by Amherst Media. All will be available on Amherst Media’s YouTube channel approximately 48 hours after the event and will be rebroadcast until Election Day.)
