Pushing Back against Biomass

The LWVA Sustainability and Climate Action Committee is continuing to push back against the clause, still in the climate change bills that have reached the conference committee in General Court, that lists biomass as a "non-carbon-emitting" energy source. Together with LWV Northampton, we are writing letters to the conference committee members.

An article in the Valley Advocate recently provided some history of this issue as it relates to the proposed Palmer Renewable Energy 35-megawatt wood-burning power plant in East Springfield, an area already plagued by poor air quality and high asthma rates.
